Senator Bill Hagerty Slams Kamala Harris' Crypto Stance: Fox

Senator Bill Hagerty told Fox News’ Eleanor Terrett on Thursday that the stance of the presumed Democratic nominee, Kamala Harris, on crypto is “burdened by what has been” ahead of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

In a July 31 X post from Terrett, the Republican Senator from Tennessee criticized Harris’s reported newfound ‘open’ attitude toward digital asset regulation amid Republican nominee Donald Trump’s appearance at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville last week.

I asked him what he thought about the Vice President’s so-called “crypto reset” and whether it could help her campaign. He said:

“It’s no surprise that after witnessing the monumental success of President Trump at Bitcoin Nashville, Kamala Harris is—as she has on many other issues—making a desperate last-minute 180 degree flip to appear pro-crypto,” Hagerty said. “Unfortunately for her, ‘what can be is BURDENED by what has been’ – three and a half years of egregiously anti-crypto and anti-innovation policies of the Biden-Harris Administration.”

Hagerty’s comments come at a critical point during the election cycle, with polls showing a tightening race to the Oval Office as Harris makes widening gains against Trump’s campaign.

The topic of digital assets could be of increasing concern for each candidate, with recent data showing that crypto is a key issue for 20% of all voters in this year’s swing states.

Trump has largely embraced cryptocurrencies on the campaign trail, most recently claiming that he would provide a digital asset-friendly regulatory framework while making the United States “the crypto capital of the planet.”

“We will have regulations, but from now on the rules will be written be people who love your industry, not hate your industry,” Trump told audiences at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference last week.

Billionaire Mark Cuban recently told Politico that Harris is reportedly more ‘open’ to warming up to the blockchain sector as a whole.

“The feedback I’m getting, but certainly not confirmed by the VP, is that she will be far more open to business, (artificial intelligence), crypto, and government as a service,” he said. “Changing the policies changes the message and lets everyone know she is in charge and open, literally, for business.”

However, Hagerty remains not so convinced. “The crypto community that shares GOP values of freedom and innovation sees right through this, which is why we saw such an enthusiastic turnout for President Trump at Bitcoin Nashville 2024,” he continued. “The Republican Party is the party of crypto—and no last-ditch effort from Kamala Harris will change that.”
